Jewelry making 200 to 250

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

I just spent the last few hours going from 200 to 250 in Jewelry making. I did about 1000 combines of Jaded Platinum Rings and spent 20,000 plat. It was long, boring and nearly put me to sleep but it got the job done…

Sticky walls slow players…

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Apparently they found a fix to the sticky wall bug. You know, the one where if you are walking too close to a wall in EQ that you slow down to ducking speed. As of 11/20/07 SKlug (EQ programmer) found a fix and it will be on test in the next patch. Then once it passes test it will be live on the real server.

New beta EQIM

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Want to chat with your EQ friends at work or when you’re away from home? There is a beta EQIM-like application called the Station Launcher that you can log into your EverQuest account through and chat with other people who are logged into the game or into their station account through the launcher.

I’ve started messing with it today but no one seems to be online =/

Bazaar arbitrage - Taaffeite

Monday, November 19th, 2007

I noticed something this weekend that is very much to my advantage and I thought I’d share.  Saturday night I was grouped with Crimson Snow guildies and we ran across some tradeskill gems such as Taaffeite and Prestidigitase and we decided to throw them up on one of our traders and split the cash.

I wasn’t the one selling the gems but when I logged onto my trader I checked out what the bazaar and barter prices were for some of the gems.  Taaffeite was up for sale anywhere from 25K to 30K+  Cool, it looked like we were going to get some decent cash.

Then I checked barter to see what people were buying it at. The prices range from 300pp to 27k. *singsong voice*Do you see what I see, Do you hear what I hear” If you do, you’ll see that I have an opportunity to make a quick 2K and hear Cha-ching! just like I did.

So this tells me two things. First, the people selling their crap …ahem… merchandise are not checking out what people are really paying for those items. Why?  I don’t know. It sure beats sitting in the bazaar all night hoping for a sale. Second, the people in barter are not checking their prices against other barter people and they are also not checking for people selling for lower than they are offering.

Since Saturday I’ve made between 3-4k off of bazaar arbitrage.

Rough Animal Pelt, Crude Silk Farming

Monday, November 12th, 2007

I found a good place to farm the lower level new tradeskill items. The Dragorn Peon’s and Commoners in Dranik’s Scar and The Bloodfields seem to drop these tradeskill items often enough to farm.  So far I have gotten:

    Rough Animal Pelt
    Crude Animal Pelt
    Crude Silk
    Natural Silk
    Thick Silk

West bug fix

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Apparently a player came up with a fix for the “West bug” that AMD users have while playing EQ. Here is their description of the fix:

WARNING: The two files linked below will modify your registry. The owner of that website can, at any time, change those files to malicious code that could screw up your computer. Download them at your own risk.

At HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Direct3D create a DWORD key named DisableD3DXPSGP and set the value to 1. If you want to disable it you can either set the key to 0 or delete it.
For those that don’t know how to edit your registry you can download and run a registry script. The
Fix.reg file will enable the fix and the UnFix.reg file will disable it.
After the fix is applied you must restart EQ for the changes to take effect.

NOTE: The fix may not work for everyone or it may not work at all. You may also notice a slight decrease in performance in any program that uses DirectX.”

New computer

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

So I bought a new computer and built it from the ground up this weekend.  Overall it did not go too badly. As a matter of fact I’m posting from it now. It is a quad core processor and I had planned to run each instance of EQ (I 3 box) on a processor But I ran into a problem. You can’t set affinity on eqgame.exe. Every time I try it gives me the error, “The operation could not be completed. Access is denied.“  After digging around a bit on the net it looks like you cannot set affinity on the eqgame.exe process.  You have to do it before the game launches so it may work on the launchpad process.  I will have to try it out later.

One other thing I learned when building this computer is that I am going to need another UPS. My old Back-UPS XS 1000 APC unit actually gave me the finger when I tried to hook up all the new gear to it.  I’m not even sure what I need for backup power with this computer.

Here are the parts I ordered:
