EQ Patcher Hanging Bug (RuleIndex.dat)

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

The latest game update seems to have caused some EQ players some update issues. For me the problem came in when the patcher was downloading the Legends of Norrath file RuleIndex.dat. For some reason the patcher would hang and error out and I would never get the play button to show up. It was stuck on updating.

What solved my issue was to download the separate LoN patcher and update the Legends files. Then I had to copy the newly downloaded RuleIndex.dat file from my Program Files\Sony\Legends of Norrath\data\archetypes folder and past it into my Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\LegendsOfNorrath\data\archetypes folder.

If you want to download the file that I used to fix my patcher here it is: RuleIndex.dat

Buyer Bug High Quality Bear Skin

Friday, February 15th, 2008

I just found out this morning that my buy line for High Quality Bear Skins does not work. Players can choose the HQ Bear Skins but the ’sell’ button does not activate. I had  the money on me so that wasn’t the issue.  I also tried deleting the buy line and re-entering it and that did not work. I made sure the the HQ skin was not the lore skin in the buy line. I stopped and restarted /buyer as well with no luck. The only thing I did not try was logging off and back on again. All of my other buy lines seem to work fine.

It’s an annoying bug but pretty minor.

Sticky walls slow players…

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Apparently they found a fix to the sticky wall bug. You know, the one where if you are walking too close to a wall in EQ that you slow down to ducking speed. As of 11/20/07 SKlug (EQ programmer) found a fix and it will be on test in the next patch. Then once it passes test it will be live on the real server.

West bug fix

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Apparently a player came up with a fix for the “West bug” that AMD users have while playing EQ. Here is their description of the fix:

WARNING: The two files linked below will modify your registry. The owner of that website can, at any time, change those files to malicious code that could screw up your computer. Download them at your own risk.

At HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Direct3D create a DWORD key named DisableD3DXPSGP and set the value to 1. If you want to disable it you can either set the key to 0 or delete it.
For those that don’t know how to edit your registry you can download and run a registry script. The
Fix.reg file will enable the fix and the UnFix.reg file will disable it.
After the fix is applied you must restart EQ for the changes to take effect.

NOTE: The fix may not work for everyone or it may not work at all. You may also notice a slight decrease in performance in any program that uses DirectX.”
