Cobalt Ore and Superb Animal Pelts

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

The wind nymphs in Dragonscale HIlls seem to be a good source of both Cobalt Ore and Superb Animal Pelts. I looted 5 ore and 7 pelts from killing around 20 nymphs. Killing the nymphs is also a good way to raise your Ladies of the Light faction and get some alternate currency, Faycitum, all at the same time through the A Quick Attack - Ladies of the Light quest from Fenden Helter.

Buying Cheaper in Buyer Mode

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Here is a little trick that I have found works well when in Buyer Mode.  When you dont have alot of money to spend but you need an item that has a higher buy price than you can afford, try setting up a buy line for an item that drops off the same mobs that the drop that you want drops from but no one has a buy line up for. You wont be able to buy alot of the drop that you want but you will buy some. This works especially well if you are looking for tradeskill items.

Example: Say that you want to buy Rhenium Ore but the buy prices are currently set at 500p per ore. You can’t afford it. So now you are forced with the choice of either spending countless hours farming or not getting the Rhenium you need for that new set of armor your smith is making. Well guess what. Iridium Ore drops off the same mobs that Rhenium Ore drops from. If you see that no one has a buy line up for Iridium, you just may be able to get some of that Rhenium you need. Set up a buy line for Iridium ore at lets say 1pp per ore. Now set up a buy line for Rhenium ore at a price that you can afford. Let’s say 50p per ore. Keep the Iridium buy line up for as long as you need the Rhenium Ore. To mitigate the cost of the Iridium ore, you can put whatever you buy onto a trader and sell it for what you bought it for.

Why this works: This works because people do not alway check the buying price of every item that drops after a night of xp’ing. They see that a lot of Iridium or dropped so they check who is buying it and run to them and sell the ore. They have 25 Iridium Ore and 1 Rhenium ore in their inventory so they just go ahead and sell that single ore to you instead of going through the bother of looking up buyers, finding the best price and running over to where ever that buyer is and selling that single item. It also works because people are just in a hurry sometimes. The group they are with wants the split from the night and to get to bed or whatever it is that they want to do.

Don’t expect to satisfy a tradeskill junkie level of demand for drops through this method of buying. You will be extremely frustrated if you do. But, you can expect to pick up a few items here and there that you need to make that final armor piece or pottery charm.

EQ Traders Corner

Friday, September 12th, 2008

The owner of EQ Traders Corner made a post on her personal blog around the middle of August that was kind of scary for me. She was considering getting rid of the site because of the cost and time involved in running it. Why is it scary?  Well because I don’t know of any other site that details tradeskills so completely and efficiently as EQ Traders. Not to mention they do this all for free. Whenever I have any questions about tradeskills that is the frist place I head. I can’t imagine the site not being there.  Whenever I get a drop that I don’t recognize and it has the tradeskill tag on it, I know I can find out if it is going to be usefull to me just by visiting EQTC.

I really hope that they keep that site going but I know how time consuming it can be to run even a small website. Let alone a site with the amount of information compiled at EQTC.

EQ Traders Corner In-Game Recipe Lookup

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

EQTC added a function to their site a while back that allows players to look up items, and recipes for items, directly from the EQ chat window.

To look up items from inside EQ:

Step 1: Type the following into your chat bar: /www eqtraders.com/i?

Step 2: Then click the item in your inventory that you want to look up and hit enter.

Step 3: Your default Web browser will open up directly to the EQTC page for that item.

Notice that letter i right before the question mark? That i means item. Use this to get information directly on the item. If you want to find out what recipes actually use an item, use this command instead:

To look up recipes from inside EQ:

Step 1: Type the following into your chat bar: /www eqtraders.com/r?

Step 2: Then click the item in your inventory that you want to look up and hit enter.

Step 3: Your default Web browser will open up directly to the EQTC page that lists recipes for that item.

Spell Parchment Conversion Chart Update

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I’ve updated the spell parchment converstion chart to include spell parchments level 29 through 59.  Some of the lower spells get a little funky since they can be used in multiple levels based on class.  If there is a number and class in paranthesis it means that there is at least 1 spell made from that parchment for that level and class but the majority of spells for that parchment will be from the number to the left.

Also worthy of note, the lower level spells that use the ‘Hides’ have multiple hides they can be converted to. For example, a Raw Runic Hide can be converted to five different types of cleaned hides to use in five different levels of spells.

65 - 66 Shaman Spells For Kenworth’s Alt

Monday, August 18th, 2008

So. Kenworth mentioned last night that he still needed his 65 and 66 spells for his shaman. Being the good guildie that I am I tolk him that I’d go ahead and make them for him when I headed up to PoK with my enchanter.  I figured that since my research skill was at 293 it would be no problem and I could do it whenever I needed to restock. Little did I know that I would be doing it much sooner than I expected. As of about 4am all 14 or so of his spells were sitting in the guild bank waiting for him. Anyone interested to know why they were done so quickly can feel free to read my ‘Screaming Banshee From Hell De-Man’s Jhet At 1AM‘ post.

Anyone who reads this post and wants spells made (up to level 70) can contact Jhet or Xyzth on the Nameless server (only). I’ll make the attempt on any researchable spell for the price of 100p and the cleaned parchment neccessary to make the spell(s).

What Are SoW Potions Called Now?

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Here is a question I can never seem to remember the answer to. What is the new name for the old Blood of the Wolf potions? The new name is Philter of the Wolf. Thank you to Rainah for answering that question for me :)

Making Platinum in EQ

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

This plat earning strategy has seemed to work well for me on The Nameless server recently. If you have a character that has a high spell research skill level, making spells level 61 to 65 seems to return some decent profit. Generally I will sell spells in that level range for 3k to 5k each spell. Ironically, I have had the least success with the people that specifically ask for certain spells to be made. Often times they buy it from another spell researcher before I have it on my trader or they disapear from eq for a time.

I’ve had the most success making spells for magicians and shamans. Enchanter spells have not sold well for me despite the fact that there are few for sale in the 61 to 65 range. I have had mixed results with hybrid spells. Generally, what I like to do is make sets of spells once I have enough parchments for a complete level. Or I’ll make a specific line of spells all at once. Such as, I’ll make all of magician pet spells for 61 to 65 and put them up for sale.

To get the most return on investment don’t buy the spell parchments from traders. Use /buyer. I really can’t stress that enough. For example, I often see sooty fine runic vellum for sale by people in /trader for around 5k. Now that might sound like a decent deal if you can sell a level 70 spell for 12k but if you consider that I put up a buy line for 100p and have had people sell them to me on a consistent basis, it no longer looks as appealing. It’s really a choice of whether you want to earn about 11.5k or about 6.5k.

Another thing to keep in mind is that inks such as Ink of Pain or thickener such as Conjuring Thickener is all player made. There are no vendor sources for inks and thickeners. The good news is that you should be able to make all of the inks with components sold from the two PoK research vendors next to the small bank.

Dwerium Trio Jewelry Calculator

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

Thank you to Benjimann for pointing me to the EQ Jewelry Calculator. It lets you calculate what gems give you what stats with any metal type. For instance you could choose to make a Dwerium Trio Ring with a Marquise Cut Amber Nihilite in the type 11 slot, a Round Cut Onyx in the first type 10 slot and a Round Cut Opal in the second type 10 slot. The calculater will show you that the stats for this ring would be: AC 10, Dex 12, HP 100, Endurance 375.

You can calculate anything from silver to dwerium, solo to trio and any gem type.

*UPDATE: The site is really there even if you get an error sometimes. I’d guess the owner is updating it frequently

Enchant Dwerium Mass Enchant Dwerium

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Good news! The enchant dwerium recipe is now fixed! Bad news! The patch that will make the recipe fix live will not go in until 2008. That means if you don’t have SoF you won’t be able to enchant the metal until next year or until you get SoF. Unless of course the enchant dwerium spell does not let you scribe/memorize it unless you have SoF. Then you are SOL until you get the new expansion anyway.
